We're currently driving South Africa's Garden Route from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town and arrived yesterday in Knysna (Nighs-na). Given that it was a Friday Night, we splurged for a sweet apartment and prepped to have a guy's night out!
Knowing that Knysna is the Oyster Capital of Africa, we set out in search of them and our dinner. We sure found them, but unfortunately they weren't really up to snuff. I couldn't really complain though since it had been about 2 months since I had eaten one of my favorite foods on the planet.
However, after going out to the Heads this morning, we stopped by the Knysna Oyster Company where our luck changed. For lunch we at 5 dozen wild and cultivated oysters from the Knysna Lagoon/Bay. Some of the best I've ever had to be sure. Delicious!
It was the best meal of the last two months for sure, andafter a bottle of Bubbly, it only came to about 25 bucks each. The meal surely would have been closer to 100a person in the states. We should’ve stayed for more…
...but to prove that we're doing more than just stuffing our faces on Bivalves, and actually being active, I'll give you a look at the Heads:
The Heads, I couldn't get wide enough but there is a similar rockface on the lefthand side. The channel in between leads to Knysna Harbor and Lagoon.
The View back towards Knysna and Knysna Lagoon
The View down from the top of the Heads, with the Indian Ocean crashing into the beach.
Jared and Evan soaking in the sun on the rocks
And, to make you a little jealous, we're also stopping frequently to go swimming in the many beaches that litter the Garden Route.
The beach at Wilderness - After getting out of the water Evan said: "When I tasted the salt in the water, I was disappointed that it didn't come with an Oyster". Tough crowd on this beach!
